Information Needed for Casting Quotations

Certain information is needed to provide accurate and timely quotations. For lowest cost castings, print dimensions should be reviewed to insure that only critical dimensions have close tolerances. Like machined parts, investment castings increase substantially in cost as tolerances are tightened on non-critical dimensions.
The resources provided by TPM can best be utilized by providing as much of the following information as possible:
  1. Two sets of casting prints.
  2. A machining print.
  3. An assembly drawing where possible.
  4. A copy of any metal, heat treat or other specification which is called out on the blueprint.
  5. Anticipated demand (yearly usage) and projected order quantities.
  6. Weight of finished part.
  7. Sample part when possible.
  8. Complete inspection requirements.
  9. End use application (friction, heat, corrosive environment, etc.).

The TPM engineering staff will review all information submitted and make recommendations, when possible, which could improve casting performance or reduce subsequent machining. For the chart lists design tolerances standard for the investment casting industry Click Here.
